ABOUT ME

What started as an experiment with a cassette deck and a synthesizer quickly became an outlet for grief, growth, and the exploration of the life of sobriety. Within the word of Soft Self Portraits, Cody Wade spins melancholy tales of love, loss, and the human condition, all through layers of warm harmonies creating a comfortable, eerily familiar dreamscape.

The upcoming release, Yarns Spun, due out late Summer 2024 finds Soft Self Portraits starting fresh after a full-band hiatus in 2019 and a live-return in 2023. Retelling unreleased songs through a new lens and creating all-new material both in-studio and in-bedrooom, the album has collaborators including Mandi Kimes from Seattle’s Lane Lines and Eric Slick of Dr. Dog

QUOTES

“[Cody] describes Soft Self Portrait’s music as “heartfelt dream pop” and “Comfort Disrupt” certainly fits the description. The first half of the song exists in a loose, slow-tempo slumber with an ethereal synth underpinning [Cody]’s airy croon. But, just when the song has become comfortable — when we think we know what to expect — it sheds it skin and slithers into an unexpected, jazz-infused prog-rock coda full of dark, sinister riffs and technical leads” - LEO Weekly
